Leongatha is a small town located in the South Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. The town is situated on the Strzelecki Highway, approximately 135 kilometers southeast of Melbourne. Leongatha has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s when European settlers first arrived in the region. The name Leongatha is believed to have come from the local indigenous language, meaning 'the place of the wild roses'.

The Leongatha Technical College was established in 1959 and provided technical education to students in the town and surrounding region. In 1994, the college became a TAFE campus, and in 2014, it was merged with the Wonthaggi TAFE to form the South Gippsland TAFE.

Leongatha has also had its share of notable residents throughout its history. One such person is Sir Roy Anderson, who was born in Leongatha in 1916.
